2020 AAU JO Games

Summer Track Info and Survey

As many of you may have heard the Missouri Valley AAU has officially canceled the 2020 track season. The main reason is that the school district’s facilities that were scheduled to be used for the track meets will not available until July at the earliest. This late date would not allow us to hold the qualifying track meets required to progress to the Jr. Olympics.

Nationally, the AAU’s plans are still to hold the Jr. Olympics if at all possible. The normal path to qualify for the JO (District, Regional, JO) might be allowed to be altered and the AAU is in discussions about how to proceed. One other way to qualify for the JO is to place in the Top 8 at the West Coast JO, formally Unity Games, or place Top 8 at the Club Nationals. Club Nationals is also in jeopardy of being canceled due to COVID-19 and its location.

It is our hope that a few high-quality meets will still be held. The Kansas Sunflower Games and the Missouri Show-Me Games are two such meets. Other meets may become available and a few coaches are in discussions with school districts about holding such meets.

If it is decided that KC FIRE can hold a season we feel it only appropriate to reduce the younger athlete’s membership fee to $200 since this is the same fee that our high schoolers would pay when they join us in June.

Below you will find a link to a survey to help us gauge how to proceed with a possible track season. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out.
