Our Coaches

Coach Mat Maynor along with his wife Bethany and two kids, Kegan and Ellie are residents of the Liberty area. Coach Mat was a successful 400M runner clocking one of the best class times in the state of Kansas during his time as a high school athlete. He graduated from William Jewell College where he ran track and cross country. His post collegiate running career saw him take on much, much longer running endeavors. Mat and his wife Bethany were members of one of the best adventure racing teams in the midwest. The team consistently finished inside the top 5 and was ranked nationally. Coach Mat completed 3 Pike’s Peak races and several multi-day adventure races before “retiring” from extreme sports. Now he coaches KC FIRE and his son’s baseball team.

Coach Bethany (Coach B) is a proud resident of the Liberty area.  She has lived in the Northland her entire life.  She went to Smithville High School where she was a multisport athlete competing in varsity Track and Field, Volleyball, and Basketball.  She competed successfully at the HS State Track level in the middle distances/relays. She attended William Jewell College where she earned her Education degree in Physical Education K-12 and French K-9. She currently teaches 1st grade in the North Kansas City School District.  Her passion is to help youth to develop a growth mindset based on this philosophy:

“Did I win? Did I lose?” Those are the wrong questions. The correct question is: “Did I make my best effort?” If so, he says, “You may be outscored but you will never lose.” – Carol Dweck

Coach David Grace, his wife Aresa, and his three kids, Alle, Zach, and Theo have been proud Liberty residents for several years. He graduated from William Jewell College and the UMKC School of Law. He competed in track in college, where his accomplishments included earning All-American honors in the indoor high hurdles. He began AAU track at the early age of 7, eventually earning AAU All-American top five finishes in the 15/16 110 high hurdles, and the 17/18 indoor 55 high hurdles. Coach Grace still holds four high school records at Excelsior Springs, was a two-time KU Relays Champ, and earned four All-State honors. He has coached numerous youth sports teams, but it is Coach Grace’s ambition to promote the sport of track and field in the Liberty area, where he has spent the best years of his life.

Coach Aresa – is a Liberty High School girls track coach and joins us for the summer program.
